Decolonizing sociology is a subject of great importance. The global economy of knowledge has generally pushed those in the global periphery to the intellectual margins of the discipline. The sociology of gender and sexualities has included opposition to empire, but as a field is embedded in these relations of power. This panel will address the question of how the sociology of gender and sexualities can be decolonized, and how this might be important in decolonizing the discipline of sociology in general.

Panelists:

Raewyn Connell, Professor Emerita at the University of Sydney

Vrushali Patil, Associate Professor of Sociology and Chair of the Department of Global & Sociocultural Studies, Florida International University

Caroline M. Schöpf, PhD candidate, Hong Kong Baptist University
