IV ISA Forum of Sociology

Updated: Feb 13, 2021

The IV Forum of the International Sociological Association has moved online to be held February 23-27, 2021. RC32’s sub-theme is “Global Inequalities in the 21st Century: Gender, Sexualities, Intimacies, and Intersectionality,” and RC32 is hosting 26 regular and joint sessions.

Global and transnational sociology often focuses on political, economic, and technological inequalities without attending to how global inequalities are profoundly shaped by the intersections of gender, sexualities, race, indigeneity, class, intimate relations, disability, among others. The RC32 subtheme for the 2020 ISA Forum builds on the ISA Forum Theme of “Challenges of the 21st Century: Democracy, Environment, Inequalities, Intersectionality” to consider how the specific global challenges that societies today face are fundamentally tied to inequalities of gender, sexualities and intimate citizenship, race, class, and disability. This subtheme focuses on how the concept of intersectionality has proved fruitful to the study of global inequalities.
